Day 12: Alder Hey Star – Amy Atherton

Meet Amy! She works as Retail Manager at our Alder Hey Children’s Charity shops.
From sorting out sewage problems, to even saving a customer’s life when they become unwell in the shop – Amy has dealt with everything thrown at her with an exceptional can-do attitude. Along with the wider shop team, Amy regularly goes above and beyond what is expected of her in her role. You truly are a star, Amy!

Day 9: Alder Hey Star – Andy Simpson

Meet Andy! He’s been acting Haematology & Blood Transfusion Lab Manager for the last year due to maternity leave! He’s today’s Christmas Stars award winner & wanted to dedicate it to his team, who provide blood tests & transfusions in multiple specialist services.

Day 8: Thankful Thursday – Ram Dhannapuneni

Meet ‘Ram the Man’! This year, Ram has treated many children across the world through Healing Little Hearts, a children’s charity, that funds trips by medical staff to perform cardiac surgery on children in remote areas who otherwise wouldn’t have access to treatment. He recently returned from his 30th trip!

He has also previously saved many lives here at Alder Hey, including the life of Sophia. She had a PDA (Patent ductus arteriosus) when she was younger, meaning a blood vessel that connects the pulmonary artery to the heart did not heal as intended after birth. A heart operation, performed by Ram, was required to save her life. Now, at 9-years-old, she competes in dancing competitions and is doing really well! She also has a special message for the man who saved her life. #ThankfulThursday

Day 6: Alder Hey Star – Raji Thomas

This is Raji. She has worked tirelessly for the past 12 months to develop a support programme for our internationally recruited nurses.
